Showtime DMX Transmitter
Showtime DMX Receiver
Our new SHOWTIME DMX system combines the latest hardware and signalling technology to allow control of all Abraxus colour change products – as well as running any other lighting or associated equipment.
It offers designers opportunities to create truly dynamic displays, where lighting/ music/ special effects can be choreographed into shows which are then stored and recalled as required.
DMX – Digital Multiplex – was introduced to the entertainment industry in 1986. Simply put it is a data transfer system that enables lights/ equipment to be controlled. At the start that meant simply dimming a lamp (or large series of lamps). More recently this developed to include the use of LEDs to offer a myriad of colour options by combining different percentages of red/green/ blue in each LED.
This level of control gives almost infinite design opportunities. An RGB LED requires a standard voltage supply – but crucially it also requires data in addition to instruct it how much red/ green/ blue to bring to the mix. And that is the function of DMX – to deliver a constant stream of data (sent at truly frightening speeds) to each and every LED within the overall design which tells it what to do.
It’s very simple in principle. The complexity comes with the size of a project. And that is where Abraxus comes in, as essentially each project will have its own variations which we will take into account when building the necessary hardware.
How Showtime DMX works
At the heart of every SHOWTIME installation is the DMX transmitter. This incorporates an intelligent processor to which designers can program choreographies of colour, intensity, chases and sequencing to create scenes that are stored and recalled either continuously or according to the time of day, or indeed any schedule required.
In practice, the transmitter will be centrally located and sends out data (either wirelessly or through data cable) to one or more receivers, which in turn output commands to light fixtures – or other equipment – to turn on/ off or create colour change or other effects.
Showtime DMX Transmitters
The SHOWTIME transmitter is the intelligent ‘brain’ that effectively runs any show. Housed in an IP56 weatherproof enclosure, it contains a powerful DMX512 controller and USB-DMX interface and comes complete with programming software for PC and MAC through which designers can create scenes and build shows which are then stored to the controller on its internal microSD memory card.
The transmitter utilises the latest wireless DMX broadcast technology that is designed to avoid interference created by other wireless networks. Alternatively transmitters can be supplied for hard-wiring of data cable.
A single transmitter unit can be linked up with an infinite number of receivers (either wireless or connected with data cable) and set up to control literally hundreds of lighting fixtures.
Showtime DMX Receivers
Receivers are supplied housed in IP56 weatherproof enclosures for easy mounting, and can be either wireless or for connection using data cable. They are supplied complete with all necessary outputs for connection to light fixtures or other equipment.
Receivers are available in various configurations to suit project requirements and can be supplied dependent on number of channels needed and load requirements. The receivers are dictated by the fixtures used. The advanced fixture will be able to have each LED in the fixture addressed individually (e.g. Chroma-Series fixtures/digital tape-light.) We refer to these as ‘digital’ fixtures. Some fixtures display only one colour at a time (RGB Circuit in the table below). (e.g. the RGB Orbital)

Receivers can be supplied for wireless or direct cable connection.
Each circuit can control up to 300W.
Showtime DMX design options
Music – the SHOWTIME software/ hardware can be fully integrated to control and interface with any music.
Snow / water / fog – by integrating one or more DMX-relays virtually any device can be controlled to create truly dynamic shows (note – pyrotechnics should not be controlled through DMX primarily). Any DMX controlled lighting can be integrated (gobo projectors for pattern projection, for example).
Interactive – if clients would like control of their own shows, there is an app download to enable the SHOWTIME transmitter to be linked to iPad or iPhone so different shows can be played at the touch of a button. This requires the wireless LAN option.
We are continuously developing this product, and are open to requests for bespoke design. For example we are hoping to include soon a remote glass touch option – a simple switch to trigger a change in a light show. Useful in shop displays for drawing attention.

This is the software you should install on your laptop/pc to control and program the Showtime Controller.
In order to run this software you will need:
• 1024x768 screen resolution (1280x1024 or greater recommended)
• 512Mb Memory (1Gb recommended)
• 1Ghz+ CPU Clock frequency
• One free USB port
• Microsoft DirectX 9.0 compatible video card to use Easy View 3D software
• Windows XP, Vista or 7 Operating System
In addition, you will need to be connected to the ShowTime controller to program it, so installation on a laptop may be useful to you. You may install the software as many times as you like, providing you comply with the licensing advice. Therefore, if you have a PC with a large screen for programming, you can transfer the show file to the laptop to actually program the controller if required.
